Queen of Bollywood, Miss world 1994, one of People magazine’s 100 Most Beautiful People (2006) - these are just a few of the titles that Aishwarya Rai is known by. Aishwarya gained international attention in 2004’s critically acclaimed film Bride and Prejudice, but she has been a superstar in Southern Asia for nearly a decade.

Aishwarya Rai was born on November 1, 1973 in Manglore, Karnatka, India to a well off family. Her father is a marine engineer and her mother is a teacher, and they influenced Aishwarya to be more than just a pretty face. She excelled academically and studied architecture at Rachana Institute before turning her attention to modeling and acting.

Aishwarya’s natural beauty was evident at a young age. Her flawless good looks, accentuated by her piercing blue-green eyes, led her to modeling jobs when she was still young. Her face has been seen on the covers of countless fashion and entertainment magazines including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Vanity Fair. She was also on the cover of Time Magazine’s Asian publication as “the new face of film.”

Although many acting jobs were offered to her while still attending school, Aishwarya resisted the temptation and continued her studies. It wasn’t until after she won the Miss World pageant in 1994 that she began to seriously consider acting and started to accept some of the roles that were being literally handed to her.

Her feature film debut came in 1997 in India’s Iruvar. Since then she has appeared in over 30 movies. She’s won two Filmfare (India’s equivalent to the Oscars) awards in the best actress category – one for 1999’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and the other for 2002’s Devdas. Aishwarya’s popularity in her native country has also earned her honors in Zee Cine Awards, the Screen Weekly Awards, and the Awards of the International Indian Film Academy.

With her star firmly cemented in Bollywood, Aishwarya is on her way to shining in Hollywood. In 1994 she made her first English language film, Bride and Prejudice, a musical which retells the story of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Her performance was critically praised and well accepted by fans.

Her performance brought her to the attention of the American film industry and has landed her roles in films opposite major stars such as Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley. She continues to act in Bollywood films while branching out to Hollywood.

While Aishwarya is focusing on her acting career she continues to model. She’s a member of L’Oreal’s Dream Team and represents the cosmetic company worldwide.

Not one to simply reap the benefits of her fame, Aishwarya is using the advantages that stardom and the money that comes along with it bring to found the Aishwarya Rai Foundation. This charity is committed to giving relief to those affected by 2005’s tragic tsunami which ravaged the part of the world she calls home. Her foundation strives to meet the immediate needs of the victims as well as providing for their long term needs by building new homes and repairing fishing boats.

Aishwarya Rai in top US series

The gorgeous newly wed Bollywood queen, the girl who rules the Indian film industry and the hearts of millions, Aishwarya Rai is back to the screen after a short break. First she made an elegant appearance at the Cannes film festival with her handsome hubby, the great Bollywood actor, Abhishek Bachchan. Second, she was seen enjoying the on stage performance of Abhi on the songs of his latest film ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’. And now it is heard that Rai will appear in one of the top US TV series. She has signed up to star in the top US sci-fi serial ‘Heroes’.

According to Heroes TV.com, Aish will appear in 8 episodes of the forthcoming series of the NBC show on ‘superhuman’ beings.

The science fiction drama television series is the brainchild of Tim Kring. It premiered on NBC on September 25, 2006 telling the saga of the several people who “though they were like everyone else…until they woke with incredible abilities” such as telepathy, time travel and flight. Soon, these people learnt that they are made for the welfare of the mankind.

It is heard that Aish will play the role of Dr. Mohinder Suresh’s elder sister Shanti Suresh who is blessed with unnatural abilities. This has provided Aish an opportunity to work with Sendhil Ramamurthy, an American actor of Indian origin who plays the character of Mohinder Suresh, a genetic professor at the University of Madras who is engrossed in discovering the truth behind the sudden death of his father and is working on his father’s research of finding the ‘superhuman’ beings on earth.

The super gorgeous and super popular Aish will begin shooting for the series next month (July) in Los Angeles.

The newly wed celebrity couple of Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bacchan have received a red carpet honor at the Russian billionaire and the Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich. Abramovich gave a royal welcome to Aish and Abhi. The couple was Abramovich’s guest of honor in his private box for two recent Chelsea games in London. According to times of India source, Abramovich laid it out thick for the Bacchans while they were there in the country. The Daily Mail reports “Roman gave Aishwarya and her husband Abhishek Bacchan full use of his own box while he was out of the country, and really pushed the stops.” The sources added “he put lots of indian food, followed by a cheese course, and organized for them to receive a sterling silver pen and signed the football shirt.”

Aishwarya Rai will not Quit Acting

The Bollwood Queen will not follow the conventional rules of marriage i.e. she will not give up her career in acting after tying knot with the Big B’s son Abhishek Bachchan. Though Amitabh adhered to the Indian culture and did not permit his wife and a versatile actress Jaya Bachchan to act in movies after they got married to each other, yet he is ready to violate this tradition for his Miss World, daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai. He added “everyone is saying, but once you see the film after its release, you will be convinced that no one else would have suited the role better than Aishwarya Rai.”

When spoken to Aish about the film she said that she is really excited and enthusiastic about the movie because of the uniqueness of the role and also due to her past contender Sushmita Sen playing the same character in another movie.

The Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai had a nostalgic experience while working for her new movie on domestic violence. This is because the blue-eyed model turned actress got reminded of the violence she had confronted at the hand of her ex-boyfriend (Salman Khan) few years back. Her new film named ‘Provoked’ is a story of a Punjabi woman who kills her harassing husband and rebels against the verdict of the court which goes against her. Jessica was born in California in April, 1981. Her family moved to Mississippi, returned to California, moved to Texas then made a final return to Southern California. All the shuffling was due to her father’s Air Force career. When the family did settle down in Southern California, Jessica was 9 years old.

At various times during her childhood, Jessica wore braces and was pigeon-toed. She suffered from asthma and motion sickness, which she still has bouts of.

She fell in love with acting at the age of five though she didn’t start acting classes until her pre-teen age of 12. She starred in two commercials at a young age, one for Nintendo and another for J.C. Penny. By 16, she’d graduated high school and a Hollywood agent picked her up. She landed a role in The Secret world of Alex Mack in 1994 and her career took off.

In 1994, she appeared in her first full-length movie, Camp Nowhere. Since then, she’s starred in other movies, averaging about one per year. She appeared in Never Been Kissed, a romantic comedy starring Drew Barrymore in 1999; played and aspiring dancer in Honey and starred in Fantastic Four as Invisible Woman.

The attribute of ‘sexy’ is also predicated to the singer ‘Justin Timberlake’. He is announced as the sexiest male musician. The American idol winner ‘Carrie Underwood’ won the female sexiest musician title. The well known celebrity in the game of soccer, David Beckham received the ‘sexiest dad’ honor. The renowned star ‘Kate Hudson’ bagged the title of ‘sexiest mom’.

The Californian Dark Angel in Sin City, the actress who has Never Been Kissed, Jessica Alba, has researched for herself the role of a blind violinist in her upcoming movie ‘The Eye’. The movie is produced by the renowned actor Tom Cruise and will hit the box office in 2008. It will be filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. One of the most watched actresses of the last year (2006) will star as Allison, a young woman who gets the power to see dead people after getting a cornea transplant. The hostess of 2006 MTV Movie Awards, Jessica says that “I have been training. I war a sleep mask and carry a cane to get around with”. She adds that “I have also been practicing the violin- its hard! It took me three months to figure it out!”

Whether the handsome hunk Tom Cruise will be seen in the movie, is not yet confirmed. But it is thought that the “Lead Actress in the Drama Series” will certainly add to her glory with this exclusive appearance.

On April 19, 1987, Maria Sharapova was born to parents Yuri and Yelena Sharapova, in western Siberia. When Maria was two years old, her family moved from her birthplace in Nyagan and settled in Sochi—this was yet another move for her parents, who had moved to Ngygen from Belarus the year before Maria was born in order to escape radiation from Chernobyl. Sochi was home to Russian tennis great Yevgeny Kafelnikov at the time—and would soon be the home of another tennis star.

When Sharapova was four years old, she began to develop an interest in tennis; Kafelnikov’s father, who was a friend of the family, gave young Maria one of his son’s old tennis racquets, and she began to fall in love with the game. She was naturally drawn to the fundamentals of tennis even as a child, and possessed a desire to be the best. Every she practiced her tennis skills by hitting tennis balls against the side of the house.Two years later, at the age of six, when she was at a tennis clinic, famed tennis player Martina Navratilova saw Maria’s talent, even though she was still very young. She was awed by Maria’s abilities, and knew the young tennis prodigy would go far. Navratilova suggested to Sharapova’s father that she start training at the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Later, the head coach of the Russian Federation suggested the same thing; again proving that Maria had enormous talent and possessed the makings of a star athlete. So, when Sharapova was seven, her father, Yuri, took her to America— neither he nor his daughter spoke English, and had under $1,000 in his pocket for the both of them. The move was a huge risk for the Sharapova family, but Maria’s abilities could not be ignored. Both Sharapova’s parents believed in their daughter’s talent, and their faith paid off.
Because of Maria’s extreme skill in the game of tennis, IMG, a prestigious sports management and modeling company, agreed to sponsor Sharapova, and provided her with the $35,000 it would cost Sharapova to stay at Bollettieri Academy annually. This was a huge relief for the Sharapova family, since the transition from Russia to the United States was indeed a challenging one. Maria’s father began to take odd jobs in order to support the two of them, and she moved into the academy dormitory when she was nine. Sharapova began to learn English quickly there with the help of the three older girls she shared a dormitory room with, and she continued to excel athletically. However, she was still faced with the difficulty of living in America without her mother, Yelena, who was still in Russia due to visa complications.

Two years later, when Sharapova was 11, her mother was permitted to come to America to be reunited with her family. Once her mother arrived, Maria was home-schooled, and would never attend formal schooling again. This was indeed a happy time for the Sharapova family—Yelena, Maria’s mother was finally reunited with her husband and daughter, and Maria was able to spend time with her mother on a daily basis for schooling.

In 2001, Sharapova’s professional tennis career officially began, when she joined the junior circuit. She won twenty-five matches that year, lost only three, and came away with three titles: Sacramento, Hilton Head and Pilsen in the Czech Republic. The following year, she did even better, maintaining her record of only three losses, and claiming twenty-six victories. Once again, she claimed three more titles: Vancouver, Peachtree, and Gunma in Japan. In 2002, she was also permitted to play a number of matches on the professional tour, which was quite an accomplishment for such a young player.

Of these matches, she claimed one victory and two losses, and was ranked 186th on the WTA charts. By 2003, Sharapova was able to play regularly in the ‘big leagues.’ She joined the WTA Tour, astounding everyone with her athletic talent. During that season, she came away with 34 wins and a negligible 11 losses. She also won two professional titles, at Quebec City and the Japan Open, as well as two double titles with fellow player Tamarine Tanasugarn at Luxembourg and the Japan Open. At the end of the season, her ranking had significantly improved: she was now 32nd on the WTA charts, and was working continually to improve her skills.

By 2004, Sharapova was as strong as ever—she wowed Wimbledon audience by defeating champion player Serena Williams. This victory made Sharapova the first Russian to win a Wimbledon singles, and the third youngest women’s champion in the history of the game.

Currently, Sharapova is preparing to graduate from Keystone High, on online high school. In her very rare free time, she enjoys reading, watching movies, and working with IMG models, a company she has been affiliated with since 2003. Maria Sharapova turns 20 The ace tennis player Maria Sharapova has stepped out of her teens and has turned 20 on April 19, 2007. The record breaking player and also a glamorous model, is too happy on bidding good bye to her teenage. According to turning 20 has helped her severally. The site mariasharapova.com reports the young and successful lady saying that “Well I'm finally twenty! So exciting not be a teenager anymore! Its been absolutely amazing having a somewhat 'normal' life for the last 2 weeks. After getting my cortisone shot I hopped on a plane, and flew to Portland to surprise my friend who was having a birthday the next day. I told her my arm was so sore that I had to lay in bed all day and ten minutes later knocked on her front door. I got that priceless 'deer in headlights' reaction followed by a scream that traveled over a mile. So after spending a day there, I headed back home and had to start rehab which is just as exciting as flossing your teeth. And I have been working out twice a day which makes me feel like it's December all over again.

But other than that I have been trying to be somewhat mature and independent.....which includes going to the grocery store, making sure the house is clean, and doing other things that usually are done unnoticed when my Mom is around. Like the other day I had to run what felt like 20 errands because it took several hours, but actually thinking about I didn't do that much considering lunch was on the to-do list. But how can you possibly skip a meal for errands? I went to the post office to pick up some packages that were sent back there after five failure attempts of ringing my doorbell when I was away. Next was 'boutique tarjet', otherwise known as target for some toilet paper and other daily necessities that I usually think are permanently stocked in the house. BTW....did you know that there is aloe vera in the Kleenexes you use once and throw away?

Talk about waste of plants!! Then I had to go to T-Mobile to start up this new Motorola Q9 I received. (this is the first doodle I'm writing on this, which is why it's taking me forever.....and please don't mind the spelling mistakes.....I'm not used to this teeny keyboard). But one of the best things about having this time off is actually being able to spend time in one place, which means getting to spend it with a 'special someone' without having to have daily text conversations. I'm starting to hit tennis balls on Monday which is exciting and frightening at the same time. Don't really know how my arm will be so it's also a bit nerve wrecking. My birthday was so fun! My Mom and Dad flew in a couple days before and since on my actual b-day I was having lots of friends over, I had a nice little dinner with them the night before. I received amazing bouquets of flowers from my friends and sponsors. I'm obsessed with flowers and every time someone asks me what i want, I say flowers because there's nothing more beautiful than receiving a gorgeous bouquet. I did receive some other stuff.....of course...but I think I will leave that to a top ten list because I feel like I'm running out of ideas. I had about 15 people get together at one of my favorite restaurants in L.A and it was great to see most of my close friends in one room.... which happens once in a blue moon.

Everyone has been asking how it feels to be 20 (a question everyone seems to ask after every birthday). Really, how different are you supposed to feel?? Well I got up, got a few hugs, went to the gym and left sweating profusely just like on any other day, except with a new diamond ring on (minor detail). I tell them I closed the door shut on those teenage years but forgot the key inside. Just like I shut the door on the teenage years, I'm shutting the door on writing my doodles on a handset device....took way too long!! TTYL!”
